Premium Organic Khapli Wheat
Khapli is one of the oldest wheats humans have ever grown, an ancient emmer wheat that has fed India for thousands of years. Long before modern high-yield wheat filled the markets, families in western and central India grew Khapli for its rich, nutty taste and wholesome grain. Today, only a few farmers still grow it. Omkar Prasad Rai is one of them.
Grown on soil we’ve tested
Omkar ji grows his Khapli without synthetic fertilisers or chemical pesticides, on a farm in Seoni that is in the process of organic certification. His soil was tested by Sonkul Testing Laboratory, Nashik (Report No. SAIPL/TR/SL-78/2025):
- High organic carbon (1.248%): a sign of healthy, living soil
- High calcium, magnesium and potassium
- Healthy soil pH (7.77)
Good grain starts with good soil, and this soil is rich in the minerals plants draw from.
What makes Khapli special?
- An ancient grain: emmer wheat, grown since the earliest days of farming. It isn’t a modern hybrid.
- Traditionally valued: Khapli has long been chosen by families looking for a more wholesome everyday wheat.
- Rich, nutty flavour: its rotis have a deeper taste and a slightly firmer bite than regular wheat.
- Hulled grain: Khapli grows with a tough outer husk that is removed before milling, as it has been for centuries.
Common uses: rotis and chapatis, parathas and bhakri, daliya and upma, laddoos and traditional sweets, and wholesome homemade baking.
Cooking tip: Khapli dough can feel slightly less stretchy than regular wheat dough. Knead with a little warm water and let it rest for 20 minutes for soft rotis.
Ingredients: 100% Khapli (emmer) wheat. Nothing added.
